October 14, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s musical trailblazers, David Adeleke aka Davido and Lekan Osifeso jnr aka Lojay, alongside Grammy-winning South African star Tyla, have been recognised on Billboard’s 2024 Honour Roll.
This prestigious accolade celebrates artistes who have achieved Number One hits on the R&B, Rap, or Rhythm charts over the past year. The Honour Roll is part of Billboard’s broader celebration of its R&B/Hip-Hop Power Players, which acknowledges those who have elevated the genre significantly.
This year’s Honour Roll comes amidst a notable resurgence in R&B, highlighted by Usher’s Super Bowl performance, marking the genre’s revival.
Billboard honoured five standout artistes shaping the future of R&B, including Usher, Victoria Monet, Lucky Daye, and the late Luther Vandross. Tyla was distinguished with the Global Impact Award for her groundbreaking hit Water, which dominated the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart for an impressive 44 weeks. The song also made significant strides across various charts, reaching No. 7 on the Hot 100, No. 6 on Pop Airplay, and topping the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop and Rhythmic Airplay charts. Billboard praised ‘Water’ for its genre-blending sound and global appeal, solidifying Tyla’s influence in Afrobeats and R&B.
