Curry Out After Injuring Left Foot In GSW Loss To Boston

March 17, (THEWILL) – A damaged ligament in Steph Curry’s left foot has sidelined the Golden State Warriors’ star indefinitely. On Wednesday, X-rays on Curry’s foot came back negative, indicating that there is no fracture or serious injury.

Curry departed the Warriors’ game against Boston in the first half and did not return to continue. In the incident that led to the sprain, Curry and Celtics guard Marcus Smart dived for a loose ball at 4:19 in the second quarter. Curry’s left leg got rolled up under Smart, resulting in an internal sprain.

Curry lasted only 14 minutes in the game, scoring three points, grabbing one rebound, and dishing out two assists before exiting. Through 63 games this season, he has averaged 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.

In his post-match comments, GSW’s coach Steve Kerr, who reacted angrily at the time of the incident, said: “I thought it was a dangerous play. I thought Marcus dove into Steph, and that’s what I was upset about. A lot of respect for Marcus. He’s a hell of a player, a gamer, a competitor.

“I coached him in the World Cup a few summers ago. We talked after the game and we’re good. But I thought it was a dangerous play.”

Also defending Smart was Curry’s team-mate Draymond Green. After the game, Green insisted that he could not describe the incident as a “dirty” play, saying: “I expect Marcus Smart to make that play. He plays hard.

“I can’t call that a dirty play, as unfortunate as it is. If it was a dirty play, I would have went and dove into his head. I had a pretty great look on the play, I was right up top. Maybe unnecessary, but that’s the most I can call it…unnecessary.”
