A few days ago, the Delta State Governor-elect, Sheriff Oborevwori, announced a list of people who would make up his transition committee.
An 88- man transition committee was set up in preparation for the inauguration of the governor, which will take place on May 29.
Olori Ivie Atuwatse, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Oba Tsola Emiko was among the transition committee members.
Shortly after the list emerged, criticism started trailing the list. It was alleged that Olori Atuwatse had started taking part in partisan politics. The queen was criticised for hobnobbing with politicians instead of facing the affairs of the Warri kingdom.
Critics claimed that her desire to be involved in politics started when she was appointed member of the High Level Advisory Committee (HLAC) on Women Economic Empowerment and Gender in Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari
However, the National Publicity Secretary of Itsekiri Consultative Congress (ICC), Comrade Edema Collins Oritsetimeyin has responded to the criticism.
According to him, Olori Atuwatse III is not involved in partisan politics. She has never sought political patronage or validation from any political party or government, but she is not averse to working with any duly elected government either at the State, Federal level, or Nations of the world on areas of qualitative education.
Oritsetimeyin added that the queen’s competence in improving quality education made her work with the Lagos State Government and recently got her appointed into the Federal Government agency on education and currently working with the Finnish Government on Education.
He stressed that the Delta State Governor-elect saw Olori Atuwatse’s sterling quality and considered it an honour to have her as a member of the transition committee probably with the aim that it will avail her the opportunity to make impute especially on areas of quality education, in the state education curriculum when the Governor-elect assumes office.
