Crime Busting: Kano Police Command Arrests 149 Suspects

July 04, (THEWILL) – No fewer than 149 suspects have been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for various offences, from June 24 to July 4, 2024.

Out of the figure, a total of 106 are thugs and 43 were arrested for committing other major crimes and recovery of arms, dangerous weapons, large quantities of illicit drugs, motor vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles, among others.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Salman Dogo Garba, disclosed this on Thursday while briefing Journalists on the command’s activities in the last ten days.

Represented by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the commissioner said the arrests were made during targeted operations he led in identified troubled spots in parts of the Kano metropolis.

During the operation, he said many recoveries were made including one Pump-Action Rifle, two motor vehicles, five tricycles, eight motorcycles, 58 knives, cutlasses and pointed-rods.

Others, Garba said, included 87 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, 23 mobile phones and 12 Solar batteries.

He said the command had intensified patrols in the affected areas and deployed additional personnel, increased collaboration with relevant stakeholders including community leaders, youth groups and other security agencies “to gather intelligence and enhance response capabilities.

“This coordinated approach is essential to effectively combat the root causes of the violence and prevent future occurrence of the incidents”, he said.

The commissioner said the command remained resolute in its commitment to combating thuggery (Daba) and other criminal activities, warning that it would spare no effort at ensuring the security of lives and property of all residents of the state.
