BEVERLY HILLS, April 11, (THEWILL) – Four nurses of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) have been placed in isolation after managing a now deceased COVID-19 patient.

The isolation of the nurses was necessitated after their contacts with the 38-year old patient.

The Lagos State government had announced the death of one COVID-19 patient at the Institute of Maternal and Child Health (Ayinke House).

She had successfully delivered a baby at Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Alimosho Local Government but developed a womb infection later and was transferred to LASUTH for appropriate medical attention.

On arrival, the deceased was tested for coronavirus. The result came positive and on Saturday, she was declared dead.

The deceased, before her death, was said to be battling with puerperal sepsis and was transferred from the Alimosho General Hospital to the Emergency Unit of LASUTH where she later gave up the ghost.

LASUTH Chief Medical Director, Prof Tokunboh Fabamwo, confirmed the isolation of the nurses. The CMD alleged that a mistake from one of the nurses led the hospital to make its stance on the isolation.

“All the doctors took precautions when attending to the patient. When the woman was about to die and was gasping for breathe, the nurses rushed to her and tried to do pulmonary resuscitation on her.

“They moved more closely to her. Though, they were protected, we felt that because of that closeness, we should isolate them so that they won’t go home and be a risk to their families,” he stated.
