April 8, (THEWILL)- Justice Rahman Oshodi, on Monday, ordered the remand of Godwin Emefiele, the immediate-past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
His co-defendant, Henry Omoile, has also been ordered to be remanded at the Kirikiri Prison.Â
Both defendants are to be remanded till the next adjourned date, Thursday, April 11, when the court will give its ruling on bail.
The court ordered the remand of both men after listening to the bail applications filed by their counsel, AbdulHakeem Labi-Lawal.
Earlier, THEWILL reported that the former apex bank chief and his co-defendant, Omoile, on Monday, pleaded not guilty to a fresh 26-count charge, bordering on abuse of office and corruption
Emefiele and Omoile were arraigned before Justice Oshodi of the Ikeja High Court on allegations of accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption and fraudulent property receipt.
In a bail request on Monday, Emefiele’s Counsel told the court to grant the bail on self recognisance pending the hearing and determination of the case or on the most liberal bail terms. The counsel also asked the court to grant the second defendant bail on the most liberal terms.
The EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo SAN, however, asked the court to exercise its discretion in granting the bail.
