Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against Suspended Adamawa REC Yunusa-Ari

May 16, (THEWILL) – The Adamawa State High Court has issued a warrant of arrest against Barr. Hudu Yunuysa-Ari, the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state.

Justice Benjamin Manji Lawan ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Barr. Yunusa-Ari and provide him in court with immediate effect to stand trial on a 3-count charge.

The order followed a ruling on an application dated April 16, 2024, and filed by the Adamawa State Government through its lead counsel, L. D. Nzadon.

Moving the application, Nzadon, who referred the court to Section 20 Subsection (1j) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2018, urged the court to exercise its powers and direct the IGP to arrest the defendant wherever he is found. He told the court that efforts to serve the defendant proved abortive.

The suspended REC is being prosecuted for illegally declaring the results of the Adamawa State governorship election.

Yunusa-Ari had stirred controversy in the last general elections after he declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aisha Binani Dahiru, as the winner of the Adamawa State governorship election with results in only 10 out of the 21 local government areas of the state collated by the commission.
