July 30, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of Brass Local Government Area, Hon. Lucky Febo, has condemned the sporadic shooting in the Hununu Community, Akassa, Brass LGA of Bayelsa State by the military, describing it as “unacceptable and potentially catastrophic”.
The incident, which occurred periodically, has instilled widespread panic and fear among the residents of the community, with reports of indiscriminate shooting and harassment of innocent civilians.
The Chairman expressed deep concern over the incident, insisting that such actions could lead to the loss of innocent lives, further destabilise the peace in the area, and undermine the trust between the military and the local community.
He, therefore, urged the military to adopt more civic and professional methods in their investigations, emphasising the need to respect human rights, follow due process, and avoid causing harm to innocent citizens.
As the Chief Security Officer of the Council, Hon. Febo also appealed to the residents of Hununu Community to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding, assuring them that the local government council is working to ensure their safety and well-being.
