July 11, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that aside from terrorism, corruption has ranked as the next deadliest affliction of humanity in every region of the world.
In a message on the occasion of the 2024 anti-corruption day in Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday, the Chairman of the Commission, Mr Ola Olukoyede, stressed the need for individuals, communities, corporate bodies and the entire world to join hands to to tackle it frontally.
The chairman, whose speech was presented by the Zonal Director of the Commission, Mr Anselem Chinweike, noted that one of such way of fighting corruption is through the whistle-blowing initiative.
With the theme, “Effective whistle-blowing for corruption-free Nigeria”, Olukoyede notes that whistleblowers are anti-corruption promoters.
“Through their efforts, anti-corruption agencies are alerted about environmental compromises that should be investigated.”
According to him, at the EFCC, the Eagle eye app is an established corruption reporting device that is generating intelligence the Commission can leverage on.
The EFCC Chairman, who urged whistleblowers to key into the device, said mails can be sent, with telephone calls, while personal visits can be made to any EFCC Command across the country to expose acts of shadiness.
“We cannot win the war against corruption through lip service, emotional outburst or mere mob campaigns. There is a need for commitment, passion, consistency and credibility of intelligence.”
While warning against false claims and misleading intelligence from whistleblowers, the Chairman noted that an internet fraudster pose as much danger to the collective progress as looters of our national treasury.
