June 15, (THEWILL) – Guinness World Records has revealed that it did not receive any application from Damilola Adeparusi to break Hilda Bassey Effiong, aka Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon record.
Hilda Baci took up the challenge to stage a cook-a-thon for 100 hours and break Indian Chef, Lata Tandon’s cook-a-thon record of 87 hours, 45 minutes.
While waiting for the official certification from Guinness World Records, Adeparusi, an Ekiti state student, announced her own cook-a-thon.
She started her 120 hours cook-a-thon in Oye-Ekiti on June 9, 2023, but hit the limelight after cooking for 30 hours.
Her effort was greeted with mixed reactions from Nigerians, who were eager to know if indeed she applied to break a world record.
During the cook-a-thon, Chef Adeparusi took her time, switching off the gas to pick beans and taking time off to relax while the cook-a-thon was ongoing.
Her attitude further created curiosity in the mind of Nigerians, who wanted to know if indeed she was serious about breaking the record.
An inquiry was sent to Guinness World Records to ascertain if Chef Adeparusi indeed applied to break Hilda Baci’s record.
While responding to the inquiry, Guinness World Records revealed that it did not receive an application regarding the cook-a-thon that ended in Oye-Ekiti.
“We have not received an application for this attempt. Applications can be made via the Guinness World Records website for our records management team to review.
“Once an application is accepted, the record claimant receives a set of detailed guidelines specific to that record category that must be adhered to.
“This also details a list of evidence that must be submitted for our team to verify the record. Guinness World Records maintains a rigorous review process to maintain the integrity of each Guinness World Records title.
“There is no waiting time to attempt to break an existing record,” it stated.
