October 12, (THEWILL) – Antonio Conte has no intention of becoming Napoli’s new manager despite interest from the Serie A club. The former Chelsea, Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur boss is currently taking a break after leaving Spurs in March and is carefully considering his next move.
Napoli have contacted Conte amid disappointment over their start to the season under manager Rudi Garcia. However, Conte was not keen on the approach while Garcia remains in charge and his meeting with club President Aurelio De Laurentiis, while cordial, did not change his stance that Napoli is not the right job for him right now.
There is a possibility Conte could be tempted should Garcia be sacked. Still, even then it is unlikely, with the Italian believed to be holding out for an opportunity at Real Madrid. Conte has been repeatedly linked with the Spanish giants over the years. With current boss Carlo Ancelotti nearing the end of his contract, speculation on that front could intensify.
Taking to social media, Conte appeared to address the Napoli talks directly. “I’m linked with important clubs but as of now, my plan remains to wait and enjoy my family,” he posted on Instagram. The 54-year-old has a reputation for instant success, winning league titles in his first seasons at Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
After stepping down from Tottenham in March, Conte is taking stock before deciding on the next move in his illustrious career.
