September 13, (THEWILL) – The Bayelsa State Commissioner for Community Development, Hon. Watson Alfred Belemote, has urged Bayelsans to maintain peace and come up with pragmatic and innovative ideas to help develop communities in the state.

Hon. Belemote, who stated this on Radio Bayelsa audience participatory programme tagged: “Talk To Bayelsa”, said the Diri-led Prosperity Government’s developmental vision for strengthening community capacity, socioeconomic and environmental well-being, as well as improving rural community livelihood led to the creation of the ministry.

Belemote reiterated that the Prosperity Government, led by Governor Douye Diri, and his Deputy, Sen. Lawrence Ewrudjapkor, established the Ministry of Community Development to tackle the development, implementation and management of community development programmes and projects in the state.

He noted that the ministry was carved out of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Development in order to align with the orientation of the people with the Prosperity Administration in terms of community development.

According to the Commissioner, the objectives of the ministry are to create peace, tranquillity and harmony, while bringing development in all the communities in the state.

The Minister, who highlighted that the ministry is open to interactions with traditional rulers, chiefs, women and youth leaders, said it will empower traditional rulers and leaders to promote socio-economic development among the people through participation in its activities and programmes.

He stated that plans are in motion for a tour of the various communities with the inclusion of the constituency leaders in its entourage with the view to interface with the people in town hall meetings.

The aim, he said, was to establish a cordial relationship with the people, as well as have first-hand knowledge and information from the people on their challenges and problems so as to relay it back to the government for solutions and resolutions.
