Club Brugge Pursuing Nigerian Defender Awaziem For €4m

July 26, (THEWILL) – Belgian football club, Club Brugge, is actively exploring the possibility of signing Nigerian central defender, Chidozie Awaziem.

The 26-year-old Awaziem is currently with Boavista, who have set an asking price of around €4 million for the player. Having begun his career at FC Porto, Awaziem’s time with the club was largely marked by loan spells to other teams, limiting his opportunities with the main squad to just 15 appearances. Notably, Awaziem spent time on loan with Alanyaspor and Hadjuk Split, impressively scoring five goals in 36 appearances during his last stint with Split.

In the summer of 2020, he made the switch to Boavista and has since made 33 appearances for the side. Club Brugge’s interest in Awaziem comes as they seek to fill the void left by Abakar Sylla, who recently moved to Strasbourg during the current summer transfer window. Additionally, there is speculation that another central defender, Jack Hendry, may depart the club, with potential interest from Saudi Arabia for the Scottish international.

With 21 appearances for the Super Eagles and a goal to his name, Awaziem has proven his worth on the international stage. As the transfer window unfolds, a move to Club Brugge for Awaziem will be a reflection of their confidence in his abilities and their ambition to improve their defensive options for the upcoming season.
