December 21, (THEWILL) – Ebonyi State Commissioner on Aviation and Transport Technology, Mrs Ngozi Obichukwu, on Thursday, said that the Infrastructure Development Company (IDC) handling the repair of the Chuba Okadigbo’s airport runway has commenced asphalt overlay.

Recall that the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, had approved N13.7 billion for the repair of the airport runway, which is to be completed within eight months.

Obichukwu made this known while speaking with newsmen shortly after the inspection of the level of work done at the Chuba Okadigbo’s airport runway located at Ezza South, Onueke.

She, however, revealed the committed efforts of Governor Nwifuru to ensure that IDC delivers a quality and standard airport runway to the State within the stipulated eight-month period.

According to her: “The Infrastructure Development company, IDC, has started asphalt overlay on the runway; it is ongoing now. The atmosphere and temperature are good for the asphalt.

“The level of work at the runway is impressive, and I believe that they will deliver the project on the stipulated time.

“I was interfacing with the site manager; he told me that they have started the production for the asphalting and today they have started asphalt overlay.”

She further urged the IDC to do all within its powers to ensure that the project is delivered at the stipulated 8-month period, adding that Governor Nwifuru is in a hurry to get the airport functional.

The Commissioner further stated that the Chuba Okadigbo’s airport runway, when completed, will be the best in the entire southeast region, and assured that there will be adequate security to protect passengers when flight operation resumes.

She applauded the Governor for planning to secure an airline for Chuba Okadigbo’s airport, adding that the airport has the longest runway, and when completed, will attract investors and other airline operators to start plying Ebonyi, instead of other states in the South East region.
