July 12, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have signed Renato Veiga from FC Basel for £11.8 million. The 20-year-old midfielder has agreed to a seven-year contract with an option for an extra year, potentially keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2031.
Veiga joined Basel in August 2023 and quickly became a first-team regular. He made his debut in September and went on to play 26 times for the Swiss club, scoring twice in the league.
The Portuguese youngster expressed his excitement about the move, saying: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started.”
This transfer marks Chelsea’s fifth signing of the January 2024 window. Veiga joins Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall as new arrivals at the London club.
