Chelsea Officially Confirm Maresca As New Manager On Five-Year Deal

June 03, (THEWILL) – Chelsea have officially announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new head coach on a five-year contract with the option to extend for a further 12 months. The Italian joins the Blues after a successful stint at Leicester City, where he guided the Foxes to promotion back to the English Premier League as Championship winners in the 2023/2024 season.

Prior to his time at Leicester, Maresca had a brief spell as manager of Italian side Parma, where he won just four games out of 14 before being dismissed. His coaching career also includes stints with Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad and as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff.

In a statement released by Chelsea, Maresca expressed his delight at joining one of the biggest clubs in the world. “It is a dream for any coach,” he said. “I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors, Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, hailed Maresca’s appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Enzo to Chelsea. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach capable of delivering impressive results with an exciting and identifiable style. Enzo has deeply impressed us in our discussions leading up to his appointment. His ambitions and work ethic align with those of the club. We thoroughly look forward to working with him.”

Maresca has joined Chelsea as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino, who departed the club following an up-and-down 2023/2024 season. Unlike Pochettino’s initial two-year contract, the Blues have committed to Maresca with a long-term deal, hoping he will lead the first team for years to come under the ownership of Todd Boehly and BlueCo.
