Chelsea Manager Admits Mudryk Still Learning Game

September 18, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s record signing, Mykhailo Mudryk, still has work to do before he fully adapts to the Premier League, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Ukrainian winger joined Chelsea in January for an initial £62 million fee after impressing for Shakhtar Donetsk. There were indications that a move to north London side Arsenal was on the horizon before the Blues swooped in to scoop the player. However, the 22-year-old is yet to score in 21 appearances for the Blues.

Speaking after Mudryk’s game against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday, Pochettino said the player needed to improve his “understanding” of the English game.

“He is improving. He still needs to learn; the Premier League is very fast, the speed of the game is so fast,” explained the Argentine. “I think it’s about understanding the game better, trying to be more connected sometimes with the team.”

Pochettino suggested Mudryk would be given time to adapt to the demands of English football. But with new signing Cole Palmer pushing for a start, the Ukrainian’s place in the team is under threat.
