September 01, (THEWILL) – Chelsea’s dominance was not enough to earn a victory at Stamford Bridge as they drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace on Sunday. Enzo Maresca’s side dropped two points in a game they should have won, extending their winless streak at home in the English Premier League.
Crystal Palace battled hard to claim a point and snapped a losing streak of their own. The Eagles fought back from going behind to level the score and nearly snatched a victory in the late stages of the match.
Chelsea had several chances to take the lead in the first half, but they were unable to convert their opportunities. Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke both missed good chances to score, while Cole Palmer’s shot went just wide.
The Blues finally broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Jackson tapped in from a Palmer cross. However, Palace equalised in the second half when Eberechi Eze scored from outside the box.
Chelsea had several more chances to win the game in the second half but they were unable to find the net. Jackson was denied by Dean Henderson on several occasions, while Palmer’s free-kick went just over the bar.
The draw leaves Chelsea in mid-table, while Crystal Palace have climbed off the bottom of the table with the solitary point earned from this draw.
