July 02, (THEWILL) – Chelsea Football Club has signed 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona on a five-year contract with an option for an additional year. The English Premier League side announced the acquisition on Monday, marking a significant move for the young Spanish talent.
Guiu, a product of Barcelona’s renowned Academy, made his professional debut in October 2023, scoring a decisive goal against Athletic Bilbao just 33 seconds after coming on as a substitute. His brief stint with Barcelona’s first team saw him make seven appearances and net his first UEFA Champions League goal during the group stage against Royal Antwerp.
The young forward’s potential was further highlighted at the European Under-17 Championship last summer, where he emerged as Spain’s joint-top scorer with four goals. This performance caught the attention of several top clubs, with Chelsea ultimately securing his services.
Upon signing for Chelsea, Guiu said: “It’s an immense joy to sign for Chelsea and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited. Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”
This acquisition aligns with Chelsea’s strategy of investing in young talent with high potential. The club’s faith in Guiu’s abilities is evident in the length of the contract offered, signaling their long-term plans for the Spanish striker’s development within their ranks.
