June 10, (THEWILL)- The Boston Celtics withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback from the Dallas Mavericks, holding on for a 105-98 victory in Game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals. With the win, the Celtics have taken a commanding 2-0 series lead as the Finals shift to Dallas for Game 3 on Wednesday.
Jrue Holiday led the way for Boston, pouring in a game-high 33 points. Jaylen Brown added 21 points, while Jayson Tatum narrowly missed a triple-double with 18 points, nine rebounds, and 12 assists. The Celtics’ balanced offence and stifling defence proved too much for the Mavericks to overcome, despite a valiant effort from Luka Doncic.
Doncic, battling through multiple injuries, recorded a triple-double with 32 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. However, he received little support from his teammates, with P.J. Washington (17 points) and Kyrie Irving (16 points) the only other Mavericks in double figures.
Dallas struggled from beyond the arc, making just six of 26 three-point attempts. The Mavericks showed their resilience, cutting a 14-point deficit to five in the final minute. Derrick White’s crucial block and Jaylen Brown’s late layup sealed the victory for the Celtics, who remain undefeated on the road this postseason.
Dallas must find a way to protect home court in Games 3 and 4 to keep their championship hopes alive.
