October 15, (THEWILL) – Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have directed feuding members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to end their disputes.
THEWILL had reported the leadership crisis rocking the PDP following an open confrontation between the Acting National Chairman of the party, Amb Illiya Damagum and its national publicity secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
In a statement signed and issued on Thursday night, by the national director of publicity, Adm. Chinwe I. Nnorom (Pst.), the Damagum-led PDP NWC, announced the suspension of Ologungaba and the national legal adviser (NLA) of the party, Kamaldeen Adeyemi Ajibade, SAN, from office.
But Ologunagba in a counter statement, announced the suspension of Damagum and the party’s national secretary, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu, over alleged anti-party activities.
Rising from a two-day virtual meeting held on October 14 and 15, 2024, the Party’s governors, called on the warring factions to revert to the status quo and work together, stating that all suspensions issued on officials within the NWC were lifted immediately.
After consultations with the PDP’s Board of Trustees and other party organs, emphasised the importance of unity within the NWC.
A communique issued at the end of the meeting chaired by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, said “The organs of the party were careful in addressing issues, particularly those involving ongoing legal disputes. The NWC should revert to the status quo and remain united in the interest of the party and the nation.”
The Governors further emphasised that there are no factions within the PDP.
Other governors, who attended the meeting include Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers State) – Vice Chairman, Senator Douye Diri (Bayelsa State), Godwin Obaseki (Edo State), Oluseyi Makinde (Oyo State), Senator Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara State), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta State), Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa State), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau State) and Peter Mbah (Enugu State).
