September 10, (THEWILL) – A Canadian-Nigerian woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, has filed a $500,000 lawsuit against Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), for what her legal team described as “selective justice”.

THEWILL had reported that the woman, based in Ontario, Canada, had in a viral TikTok live meeting video, vowed to poison the foods and waters of Yoruba and Benin people at her place of work. She also asked people of the South-East region of Nigeria to develop a hard heart against Yorubas and Benins by poisoning their foods and waters anywhere they see them.

The Toronto Police Service had on September 2, arraigned Amaka before a judge at the Ontario Court of Justice after she was arrested for alleged hate-motivated threats.

According to Amaka’s lawyer, the lawsuit revolves around the NIDCOM boss’ alleged biased approach to handling tribal remarks.

Her lawyer contended that Dabiri-Erewa ignored similar tribal comments from people of other ethnic backgrounds but chose to single out Amaka for her own statements.

Citing unfair and discriminatory treatment, Amaka’s legal team believed that such practice undermines the unity of Nigeria.

The lawsuit is seeking $500,000 in damages.
