October 11, (THEWILL) – Cameroon dominated their 2025 AFCON qualifier against Kenya with a commanding 4-1 victory at the Japoma Stadium in Douala on Friday evening. The result strengthened their position at the summit of Group J, where they now hold seven points from three matches, maintaining a two-point advantage over Zimbabwe in second place.

The hosts demonstrated their attacking intent from the opening whistle, with Vincent Aboubaker converting a penalty in the eighth minute to establish an early lead. Martin Hongla extended the advantage in the 39th minute before Michael Olunga pulled one back for Kenya two minutes later. However, Bryan Mbuemo struck just before the interval to restore Cameroon’s two-goal margin.

The second half witnessed Christian Bassogog adding a fourth goal for Cameroon in the 55th minute, effectively ending any hopes of a Kenyan comeback. Despite tactical changes implemented by Kenya manager Engin Firat, the visitors found themselves unable to reduce the deficit further, with the match concluding in a comprehensive victory for the home side.

The result reinforces Cameroon’s strong position in their qualification campaign for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Their performance demonstrated their offensive capabilities, with four different players contributing to the scoresheet in what proved to be a convincing display of attacking football.

The victory provides Cameroon with valuable momentum as they continue their qualification journey, while Kenya must regroup and focus on their remaining fixtures.
