October 18, (THEWILL) – Barcelona’s injury woes are set to continue as midfielder Sergi Roberto becomes the latest to get a spell on the sidelines after picking up a calf injury.
The 31-year-old’s recovery time is currently unknown as Barcelona struggle to cope with a mounting injury list. Manager Xavi has already been deprived of key players Jules Kounde, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski due to injuries prior to the international break.
A statement on Barcelona’s official website confirmed Roberto’s injury, saying: “He has a soleus muscle injury in his right leg and will be unable to play until the problem resolves.”
There was some positive injury news for Barcelona, however, as Spain internationals, Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal, returned to training on Wednesday. Balde sustained an adductor injury on international duty, which ruled him out of Spain’s Euro 2024 qualification victory over Norway.
Meanwhile, 16-year-old Yamal, Spain and Barcelona’s youngest-ever goalscorer, has overcome a hip flexor issue, which prevented his national team selection.
