BEVERLY HILLS, March 03, (THEWILL) – Sequel to the official statement released on Tuesday by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), as reported by THEWILL, that updated the regulations regarding media participation in the coverage of their 43rd General Assembly and the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), due to coronavirus concerns in Africa, the continental body released another update on Wednesday.

This new update partially reversed the complete dismissal of all physical participation by media organisations and persons involved in the media coverage, which moved everything to a virtual space in response to “new preventive measures” to mitigate against the continued spread of the virus in the Kingdom of Morocco, the host of both CAF events.

The basis for this partial reversal was the outcome of “further consultations” with the Football Association in Morocco. A decision was therefore reached that allowed for a limited set of representatives of involved media, domestic and foreign, to physically participate in the coverage of the two events with a percentage of representation spread across board.

This welcomed change was hinged on what the Confederation termed an “evolution of the epidemiological situation at the global level” which is currently not as insidious as it previously was although more infectious variants have emerged in different parts of the world.

The official CAF statement read: “CAF is pleased to announce that following further consultation with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the 43rdCAF Elective General Assembly and the matches of the TOTAL Africa Cup of Nations U17 will now be open to a limited number of media representatives.

“The agreed spread is 30% for the local press and 70% for the foreign media.
