April 23, (THEWILL) – Vincent Kompany, the Burnley manager, has refused to be drawn into commenting on reports linking him to Chelsea’s search for a new boss.
Chelsea are believed to be considering Kompany as one of the three shortlisted candidates, along with Mauricio Pochettino and an unnamed third manager. Kompany has caught the attention of the Blues after leading Burnley back to the English Premier League in his first season in charge.
“I said I’m not engaging on any of these conversations”, Kompany said when asked about Chelsea’s interest. “I have too much at this moment in time in my head in terms of wanting to win football matches. That’s the only thing I care about.”
Although Kompany has made a significant impact at Burnley, he is not seen as a genuine candidate for the Chelsea role, with Pochettino emerging as the leading candidate. Chelsea’s top priority is believed to be securing the services of the former Tottenham boss, who has impressed in talks with the club’s hierarchy.
Last week, it was revealed that another top candidate for the manager spot, Julian Nagelsmann, personally removed himself from consideration for the Blues’ post. The former Bayern Munich boss had been a frontrunner for the job alongside former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique.
