March 06, (THEWILL)- The British military is seeking collaboration with military institutions in Nigeria in areas of academic training centres and strategic defence among others.

Colonel Martin Leach, Commander, British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT), made this known when he led a delegation of BMATT to the Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Major General JO Ochai, at the NDA Headquarters, Afaka on March 1, 2024.

Stating the purpose of their visit, Colonel Leach, who disclosed that NDA is a priority military institution for BMATT, said they are in Nigeria for partnerships and collaborations with military institutions in the country.

According to Colonel Leach, BMATT is keen to get a good understanding of military and academic activities in NDA, which he said will help them narrow down possible areas of assistance and collaboration, as well as strengthen their relationship with the NDA.

He gave assurances that BMATT will support the Chief of Defence Staff, General CG Musa, in his efforts to position the Nigerian Armed Forces and tackle the current security challenges in Nigeria.

Responding, Major General Ochai, represented by the Deputy Commandant, Air Vice Marshal SK Aneke, appreciated BMATT for the visit, noting that it will propel NDA to greater military and academic heights.

Thereafter, AVM Aneke presided over an interactive session, which was geared towards providing a detailed insight into the activities of NDA.

Earlier, a brief of training activities in NDA was presented to the BMATT team by NDA’s Director of Military Training (DMT), Brigadier General OA Awolo, where he gave a general overview of training activities in NDA and highlighted major areas of collaboration and assistance.

The brief covered the vision, mission, aims, brief history of NDA and training objectives. It also highlighted possible areas of collaboration with BMATT on leadership training, media operations, law of armed conflict as well as human rights.
