BREAKING: First Year Anniversary: It’s False, Tinubu Not Addressing Joint Session of NASS, Says Presidency

May 28, (THEWILL) -The Presidency has refuted the information that President Bola Tinubu will address a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, May 29. to mark 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.

A statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, described as false, the information that the President will address the joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

According to the Presidential Spokesman, the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event, adding that the information is “false and unauthorised”.

Earlier, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, in a statement, said President Tinubu will address a joint sitting of the Senate and the House of Representatives, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, in commemoration of the 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.

Tambawal also noted that the president would commission the newly built library complex in the National Assembly.

“This is to inform Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members that as part of the event to commemorate 25 years of unbroken democracy and Legislature in Nigeria, there will be a joint sitting of both the Senate and the House of Representatives on Wednesday, 29 May 2024.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR will address the joint sitting on State of the Nation and also commission the National Assembly Library”, he said.

Similarly, another statement, jointly signed by Senator Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South) and Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr. (APC, Ekiti) who are spokesmen of the Senate and House of Representatives respectively, noted that the joint session would be in commemoration of Nigeria’s Silver Jubilee, marking its fourth republic.

According to the statement, “Highlights of the event include a keynote speech by H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces…”

Reacting to the statement on Tuesday, the Presidency described the information as false and unauthorised, as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.

“In view of public commentary concerning the President delivering a speech before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow, May 29, 2024, it is important to state that this information is false and unauthorised as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event”, Ngelale said in a statement.

The statement titled: “IN COMMEMORATION OF MAY 29 AND THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE PRESIDENT TINUBU ADMINISTRATION” reads:

“In furtherance of his commitment to delivering good governance, President Bola Tinubu has embarked on the inauguration of strategic projects across the country.

“More transformative projects will be inaugurated by President Tinubu’s administration for the benefit of all Nigerians.

“In view of public commentary concerning the President delivering a speech before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow, May 29, 2024, it is important to state that this information is false and unauthorised as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.”
