BREAKING: NRC Suspends Train Operations Along Abuja-Kaduna Route

March 29, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has suspended operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route after terrorists blew a track and attacked a train, Monday night.

The NRC made this known in a post via its official Twitter handle @Official_NRC on Tuesday morning.

In a terse statement, the NRC stated that the suspension was due to unforeseen circumstances.

“Dear passengers, due to unforeseen circumstances, Train operations along the Abuja-Kaduna route has been temporarily suspended. Further communication would be given in due course”, the tweet read.

THEWILL reports that the Kaduna-bound train with an unspecified number of passengers on board was on Monday night attacked by terrorists.

The attack came a few days after the terrorists attacked the Kaduna International Airport, where an aircraft was prevented from taking off.

The gunmen were said to have blown up the rail track, forcing the 1000-capacity train to derail around Rijana, a village on the rail corridor in Kaduna.

Security operatives were, however, deployed to the scene of the attack.

Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, admitted that some passengers sustained severe injuries, while others were hospitalised.

In October last year, the train service experienced similar attack with an explosive by terrorists. The NRC also suspended the services for over three days.
