May 30, (THEWILL) – Former US President, Donald Trump, has been convicted on all 34 felony charges of election obstruction and falsifying of business records in a criminal hush-money scheme to influence the outcome of the 2016 election.

A jury of 12 at the Manhattan courtroom, who sat in Trump’s “hush money” trial, found him guilty on Thursday; making him the first former or sitting president in U.S. history to be convicted of criminal charges.

The Jury held that Trump broke the law by falsifying business records to cover up a $130,000 payment to adult film star, Stormy Daniels, before the 2016 election.

While Trump had denied having sex with Daniels and pleaded not guilty, the jury agreed with prosecutors who said that Trump authorised the plan to falsify checks and related records in an effort to prevent voters from learning of an alleged sexual encounter with Daniels.

Prosecutors for Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, said the conspiracy spanned his 2016 campaign and continued well into his first year in the White House. .

The former President will be sentenced on July 11, 2024.

Commenting on the trial, Trump said, “This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge who was corrupt. This was a rigged trial, a disgrace.”
