October 02, (THEWILL) – Bayer Leverkusen continued their impressive UEFA Champions League campaign with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan at home on Tuesday. The German side demonstrated both attacking chops and defensive solidity to maintain their perfect start in the competition.

The match-winning moment arrived shortly after half-time when Nigerian international Victor Boniface exhibited his predatory instincts. The 23-year-old striker pounced on a rebound from Jeremie Frimpong’s initial shot, which AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan could only parry across the goal line. Boniface emphatically fired home from close range to break the deadlock.

Leverkusen, who reached the Europa League final last season, have now won both of their UCL matches, scoring five goals without conceding. In contrast, AC Milan, seven-time winners of the competition, suffered their second consecutive defeat following a 3-1 loss to Liverpool in their opening fixture.

The home side dominated much of the encounter, with German talent Florian Wirtz orchestrating their attacks. Boniface proved a constant threat to the Milan defence and had an earlier goal disallowed for offside after a VAR review. The Italian team showed signs of life after conceding, with Youssouf Fofana testing Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky from distance.

AC Milan came close to equalising in the closing stages when Theo Hernandez’s deflected shot struck the crossbar and Alvaro Morata’s follow-up header narrowly missed the target. Hradecky was called into action again to deny Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s powerful strike. Leverkusen held firm to claim a valuable three points and strengthen their position in the group.
