September 27,(THEWILL) – Bayern Munich star, Serge Gnabry, will be sidelined for a significant period of time as he undergoes an operation for a fractured lower arm. The news was announced by coach Thomas Tuchel, who expressed his disappointment at losing such an important player to injury.
The setback occurred during Bayern’s German Cup match against Preussen Muenster on Tuesday, where Gnabry suffered the injury after a collision with the opposing team’s goalkeeper, Johannes Schenk. Tuchel stated that Gnabry’s absence will be felt for “several weeks”, meaning he will miss crucial upcoming fixtures for Bayern.
This includes a Bundesliga away match against RB Leipzig on Saturday, as well as a UEFA Champions League group game against Copenhagen next Tuesday. The injury also puts into question Gnabry’s availability for upcoming international matches, as he may not be able to participate in new Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s debut matches in October against the US and Mexico.
The unfortunate incident occurred just 11 minutes into the match against Muenster, and the severity of the injury was confirmed by an X-ray. Despite the disappointment and frustration surrounding Gnabry’s absence, Tuchel praised the forward for his important role on the team and his positive character.
This injury is a major blow to both Bayern and Germany, as Gnabry’s attacking prowess will be sorely missed on the field. In the meantime, Bayern will have to find a way to cope without Gnabry as they compete in both domestic and European competitions.
