October 18, (THEWILL) – Tigran Gambaryan, the detained Head of Binance financial crime compliance unit is “very sick”, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.

THEWILL earlier reported that Justice Emeka Nwite had rejected the medical motion for bail on Gambaryan last week, noting that “renowned Nigerian medical experts are already managing” his health health and fixed today for continuation of trial in the alleged money laundering charge preferred against him and his company, Binance Ltd.

There was mild drama at a Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, as the detained Binance Holdings Limited’s executive, Tigran Gambaryan, was conspicuously absent for his trial.

However, when the matter was called on Friday, all the counsel to the parties in the case were in court except Gambaryan.

While his lawyer, Mark Mordi (SAN) and Binance’s lawyer, Tonye Krukrubo, SAN, denied the whereabouts of his client, Ekele Iheanacho (SAN), the EFCC’s lawyer also expressed surprised that Gambaryan was not in court.

However, the NCoS officer, who was in court told Justice Nwite that Gambaryan was very sick.

“I was told that he (Gambaryan) is very sick, and that is why he could not be produced in court”, the Officer said following a phone call to the NCoS.

THEWILL reports that the Court had on April 8, ordered that Gambaryan be remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre. Mordi had on September 4, requested a six-week bail for Gambaryan to seek proper medical attention outside of prison, citing inadequate care in custody. Mordi told the court that Gambaryan’s health was “perilous” and required surgery for a herniated disc and psychiatric care due to depression and anxiety.
