July 26, (THEWILL) – Simone Biles, the renowned American gymnast, has submitted a new skill for her uneven bars routine ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. The skill, a variation of one created by Wilhelm Weiler, involves a “clear hip circle forward with 1.5 turns to handstand”.

If Biles executes this skill successfully at the Olympics, it will become the sixth element named after her. The International Gymnastics Federation has assigned the skill a difficulty of E on an A to J scale, with a score of 0.5.

The 27-year-old is set to return to Olympic competition after her withdrawal from several events at the 2020 Tokyo Games after suffering from “the twisties”. She has since made a strong comeback, winning multiple gold medals at the 2023 World Championships.

The gymnastics competition for the 2024 Summer Games will begin on Sunday with qualification rounds. Biles is once again the favourite for the all-around title, aiming to become only the third woman in Olympic history to be a two-time all-around champion.

Teammate, Suni Lee, the 2020 Olympic all-around champion, will also compete for this distinction. The stage is set for an exciting gymnastics competition at the Paris Olympics, with Biles’ new skill adding to the anticipation.
