March 01, (THEWILL) – The attempt by lawmakers in the upper legislative chamber to change the name of Barkin Ladi local government in Plateau state to Gwul local government, has suffered a setback.
Gwul is an indigenous name of the people in Plateau state while Barkin Ladi is an Hausa’s name.
The development is part of the process of the ongoing constitutional amendment in the national assembly.

Voting on the bill on Tuesday, sixty-seven (67) vetoed the proposal as against 23 who voted in support.
The bill failed to get the required number of votes that will make the chamber to get it passed.
Meanwhile, the bill to alter the names of some local governments scaled through.
The senate passed the bill to change the names of Afikpo North and Afikpo South local government areas of Ebonyi state; Kunchi local government area of Kano state and Atisbo local government area of oyo.
