Benue Police Neutralise Six Bandits, Arrest Robbers, Kidnappers

July 29, (THEWILL) – Operatives from Benue State Police Command have stormed a bandit camp at Mbavuur ward, in Logo Local Government Area, where a team of Operation Zenda JTF engaged the militia group in a gun duel.

During the operation, six bandits were neutralised while others escaped, as corpses recovered were deposited at NKST Hospital, Ugba morgue while fleeing suspects are still being trailed.

In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sewuese Anene, listed items recovered from the scene including one AK-47 rifle and two locally fabricated shotguns loaded with ammunition.

According to the statement,  the Command equally arrested two suspected armed robbers.

“At about 1130hrs on 18th July, 2024, one Tersoo Dabo ‘m’ 22yrs of Udei was trailed and arrested in connection with robberies along Makurdi -Lafia road. The suspect confessed to being part of a 7-man gang operating along the highway.”

According to the PPRO, further investigation led to the arrest of one Martin Akunu ‘m’ 37 years of Udei town, the spiritual leader of the said gang who fortifies them before going out for operations.

He said one locally-made double barrel and 162 balls suspected to be local ammunition and gunpowder were found in his possession.

The statement further pointed out that a police patrol team at Daudu arrested a suspected kidnapper, one Usman Hardo ‘m’ of Keana who has been on the wanted list for kidnapping and cattle rustling in Nasarawa state and Guma Local Government Area of Benue state.

“Investigation is ongoing to arrest other gang members. Let me use this opportunity to commend the good people of Benue state for their continuous support to the police and resilience in fighting crime.”

The statement quotes the Commissioner of Police, CP Yabanet Yakubu as assuring that the command, under his watch, is committed to rid the state of criminality and charged members of the Public to volunteer timely information to the police for quick responses.
