September 18, (THEWILL) – The Benue State Government has condemned what it described as consistent uncomplimentary remarks by the lawmaker representing Ado, Okpokwu, Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Philip Agbese, against Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration.

At a news conference in Makurdi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, while describing the act as strange behaviour, noted that such was not befitting of an elected representative of his people and warned against further utterances.

The reaction follows a recent viral video on social media where the lawmaker was heard welcoming a former aide of the Governor and commending him for leaving a “den of demons” for the family of saints.

Kula noted with dismay that for Agbese to describe Alia’s Government as a “den of demons” was unfortunate, advising the lawmaker to face his legislative duties so as to deliver on his campaign promises instead of pursuing shadows.

“When the same lawmaker made a mockery of himself by taking down the portrait of Governor Alia in his office as well as ran commentaries not befitting of his status as people’s representative, the Government viewed the act as abnormal but kept calm in order to see his further actions.

“We ignored his behaviour thinking that as a youth, he may have been influenced by alcohol or abused other substances and will certainly come back to his senses to apologise,” Kula said.

Sir Kula described as unacceptable deliberate move by Agbese to bring down a man who is delivering on his mandate, especially making the welfare of Benue people top priority through the payment of salaries and pensions, provision of infrastructure as well as other people-oriented projects.

He, therefore, urged the lawmaker to face his legislative business instead of chasing shadows, saying Governor Alia would never be distracted by such antics but would always remain more than focused on delivering the goods to the people of Benue State.

“Even if Agbese wishes to be Governor at a later time, at the moment, Benue people spoke loud and clear during the last general elections that they preferred Governor Alia through their ballots. Let me urge Agbese as a representative of the people to remain focused in order to deliver on his assignment rather than using diversionary tactics,” he added.

Efforts to get a reaction from Honourable Agbese were unsuccessful as he could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
