August 19, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid overcame an early deficit to defeat Almeria 3-1 in La Liga action on Saturday.
Almeria struck first through former Real Madrid youth player, Sergio Arribas, but Los Blancos rallied behind a brace from Jude Bellingham to claim all three points on the road. Arribas opened the scoring just three minutes into the match, sneaking in at the far post to punish his former club. The lead lasted only 16 minutes however, as Bellingham equalised with a deflected effort.
The English midfielder was Real Madrid’s most dangerous player on the day, constantly threatening the Almeria defence. He gave Real Madrid the lead shortly after half-time, nodding home a fine pass from Toni Kroos to make it 2-1. The goal was Bellingham’s third of the fresh La Liga season. Vinicius Junior then curled in Real Madrid’s third goal after being set up neatly by Bellingham.
Real Madrid showed their championship mentality by overcoming the early setback to earn a key road victory. Bellingham continues to impress in his first La Liga campaign, with his brace Saturday highlighting his massive potential and growing importance to the team.
The victory sees Real Madrid move to the top of the La Liga table, though Osasuna could overtake them if they beat Athletic Club later on Saturday. Next up for Real Madrid is a Friday night clash with Celta Vigo. Almeria will look to bounce back next weekend away against Cadiz.
