Beehive Of Activity In Imo Communities As LG Polls Draw Near

June 24, (THEWILL) – Barely four months to the September 21 local government elections in Imo State, communities in the state have come alive as chairmanship and councillorship candidates under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political parties have started meeting with kinsmen over their political ambitions.

Recall that the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), following the approval of Governor Hope Uzodimma, announced that local government elections in the state will take place on September 21, 2024.

However, there have been speculations from different quarters that the exercise will not hold due to the inability of previous governors to do so despite their promises.

Meanwhile, the ISIEC, on Thursday, flagged Off activities leading to the conduct of the elections in the state.

Speaking at a Stakeholders meeting which took place at the Rockview Hotels, Owerri, ISIEC Chairman, Mr. Charles Ejiogu, released the schedule and charged political parties to play by the rules and regulations.

He said the upcoming LG poll is significant, being the fifth since Nigeria’s return to constitutional governance following the 1999, 2004, 2010, and 2018 elections.
