June 15, (THEWILL) – Bayern Munich has been compelled to reimburse more than €200,000 after failing to meet the minimum wage obligations over a period of five years, as announced by Bavarian customs authorities on Thursday.

Additionally, the club is required to settle approximately €45,000 in unpaid social security contributions. The investigation revealed that Bayern had underpaid its employees between 2016 and 2021.

In response, the Munich customs office issued a statement on Thursday, stating that the club had employed workers, primarily at its youth training centre, under limited-hours contracts but “the actual level of employment was far higher.” A part of the statement concluded: “The club did not pay the minimum wage at the youth training centre it operates.”

The serial Bundesliga champions responded saying, “It was never FC Bayern Munich’s intention to withhold employees from their legitimate wages. The club has cooperated with the process and the procedure is now closed.”
