August 03, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur suffered their first pre-season defeat against Bayern Munich in a sold-out match at Seoul World Cup Stadium. The game ended 2-1 in favour of the German side, marking Ange Postecoglou’s initial loss in the off-season.
Bayern took an early lead in the fourth minute when Gabriel Vidovic capitalised on a poor pass from Guglielmo Vicario to Djed Spence. The Bundesliga team dominated the first half with 12 shots compared to Tottenham’s two. Leon Goretzka extended Bayern’s lead after the break, following up on his own rebounded shot.
Spurs improved in the second half, with Pedro Porro scoring from distance in the 66th minute. However, Bayern kept control in the closing stages to secure the win. The match statistics showed Bayern’s dominance, with 22 shots, 20 from inside the area, and 11 on target.
Despite the loss, Postecoglou can find positives in Tottenham’s second-half performance. Still, the result ends Tottenham’s unbeaten run in their 2024 pre-season campaign.
While the defeat will provide areas for improvement, the increased attacking output in the second half offers encouragement for Postecoglou and his team as they continue their preparations for the upcoming season.
