April 06, (THEWILL) – The President of Basang Nation and leader of the 8th Executive Council of Basang Development Association (BDA), CRS. Hon Anyawho Sylvanus, has welcomed the intervention of the 9th Senate of Nigeria in the funeral of Senator Joseph Wayas.

The BDA is a socio-cultural organisation in Basang, a political Ward in Obanliku Local Government Area, where Senator Wayas comes from.

The development association commended Distinguished Senator Gershom Bassey, Senator Sandy Onor, and Senator Jarigbe Agom for taking the delay in Wayas’ burial to the National Assembly.

The association’s President said: “We received and watch in appreciation your motion as was presented at Senate plenary on Tuesday, the 4th of April, 2023, calling on the Federal Government to take over the burial arrangements of our Son and leader, late Senator Dr Joseph Wayas.

“The entire Basang people, both at home and in the diaspora, do appreciate your call for Federal Government intervention.

“The delayed interment of his remains has become an embarrassment to us his community, kinsmen, local Government, the state as well as the entire country.

“We also appreciate your call to the Government to immortalise Senator Dr Joseph by naming the Senate Wing after him.”

Senator Wayas, a former Senate President between 1979 to 1983, died on November 30, 2021.

However, over sixteen months after his death, his remains have not been laid to rest and is still in a morgue abroad.

The State Government has set up a committee of eminent personalities to plan his burial but that has not materialised.

The family of the deceased had, some weeks ago, called on the committee to give an account of monies released for the burial.
