July 23, (THEWILL) – Barcelona’s new manager, Hansi Flick, has outlined his vision for the team’s playing style next season.
In an interview with Barca ONE, Flick expressed his respect for the club’s traditional passing game but emphasised his desire to implement a more direct approach focused on scoring goals.
Flick, who was appointed in May on a two-year contract, aims to turn around Barcelona’s fortunes after a trophy-less 2023/2024 season. The former Germany and Bayern Munich manager stated: “Here the tradition is to play with passing, but I also want them to go straight to the goal. They should focus a bit more on scoring.”
While maintaining elements of Barcelona’s signature style, Flick intends to introduce tactical changes. He explained: “I do not think my style has any major changes. I am looking for the same thing, to press high up, and to play in the opponent’s midfield. But, at the end of the day, everything is about winning games.”
Barcelona’s pre-season preparations include a match against Manchester City in Florida on July 30. The team will then kick off their La Liga campaign with an away fixture against Valencia on August 17.
The appointment of Flick follows the dismissal of the previous manager, Xavi Hernandez. Barcelona president Joan Laporta previously cited squad doubts as a factor in Xavi’s exit after previously convincing the club legend to overturn his earlier decision to leave.
