July 12, (THEWILL) – Barcelona have announced the signing of Vitor Roque from Club Athletico Paranaense, with the Brazilian forward set to join the Spanish champions in the 2024/2025 season.

The 18-year-old has agreed to a contract that will keep him at Barcelona until 2031. While the financial details of the transfer remain undisclosed, media reports monitored by THEWILL suggest that Barcelona agreed to pay a fee of €40 million, along with an additional €21 million in add-ons.

Roque, considered the potential successor to Robert Lewandowski, has shown the stuff of his talent by scoring 22 goals in 66 appearances for Paranaense and making his debut for the Brazilian national team. The Spanish giants described Roque as a developing centre forward with the sort of versatility that allows him to play on the wing if necessary. The club also pointed to his exceptional game-reading ability, as well as his speed and finishing skills in front of goal as crucial.

The young Brazilian talent has already demonstrated his potential by helping Paranaense reach the final of the Copa Libertadores last season. Furthermore, Roque made history by becoming the youngest debutant for the five-time world champions, Brazil, when he earned his first cap in March.

To secure their investment, Barcelona has included a buyout clause of €500 million in Roque’s contract. This clause reflects the club’s belief in the player’s long-term potential and their determination to retain him amidst potential future interests from other clubs. With the signing of Roque, Barcelona aims to strengthen their attacking options and prepare for the eventual departure of veteran striker, Robert Lewandowski, who is set to turn 35 next month.
