August 01, (THEWILL) – Thousands of angry youths today took to the streets of Kano protesting the current hunger, poverty, inflation, unemployment and bad governance ravaging the country.

The angry youths, who carried sticks and placards, occupied the City Centre including the road leading to the Emir’s palace, State Road, BUK Road, Zaria Road and Zoo Road, chanting anti-government slogans and songs.

“We are tired of this Government; we are tired of bad governance; Tinubu has failed; Tinubu must go; he has failed to implement the covenant we had with him in 2023.

“There is widespread hunger, poverty, unemployment, and insecurity in the land. Nigerians are dying of hunger and diseases, all because of bad governance”, the protesters said.

Some of the protesters attempted to burgle the Sadaraki shopping mall, located along Zoo Road, but were promptly dispersed by security guards manning the shop.

Security is tight as police and other security personnel are manning strategic places in the state capital including government buildings and major markets.

Virtually all the streets of the capital city have been deserted as the residents have retreated to their residential quarters discussing the raging protests and praying for their success.

Commercial activities too have been paralysed as shops, markets, and eating joints remain closed for fear of the unknown.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had urged the youths partaking in the protests to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, adding that he is ready to receive them at the Government House and collect their letter of grievances for onward transmission to the Federal Government.

Yusuf, who made the call during a meeting with stakeholders at the Government House on Wednesday, said: “I will not run away. I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver the same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully.”
