August 02, (THEWILL) – Rivio Ayemnwere has signed with Ikorodu City FC, a newcomer to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). The forward moves from Sporting Lagos, where he made history by scoring their first NPFL goal last season.
Ikorodu City FC, known as the Oga Boys, are set to make their NPFL debut in the upcoming season. Ayemnwere’s addition brings valuable experience to the squad, with the player having made 24 appearances for Sporting Lagos in their previous campaign.
The transfer comes after Sporting Lagos faced relegation to the second division in June 2024, just 11 months after their promotion to the NPFL. The team’s performance declined sharply towards the end of the season, with losses against Shooting Stars SC, Gombe United, and Kano Pillars, along with draws against Doma United and Abia Warriors FC.
Ayemnwere is expected to be officially introduced as an Ikorodu City player before the new season begins. His pace and goal-scoring ability could prove crucial for the Oga Boys as they aim to establish themselves in Nigeria’s top flight.
While Sporting Lagos regroups in the second tier, Ikorodu City FC will look to capitalise on Ayemnwere’s skills and experience in their inaugural NPFL season. The forward’s transfer marks a new chapter for both clubs as they pursue their respective goals in different divisions.
