July 14, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, has described the gun attack on the former United States (US) President, Donald Trump, in Butler, Pennsylvania, as distasteful.
THEWILL reports that Trump was rushed off-stage by security personnel on Saturday, following a gun attack, during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Although the attacker, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was immediately neutralised by a Secret Service sniper, in a post on his Truth Social network, Trump said a bullet pierced the “upper part” of his right ear.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realised then what was happening”, Trump wrote.
Reacting to the incident on his verified X handle on Sunday, President Tinubu said, “The attack on former President Donald Trump is distasteful and goes beyond the pale of democratic norms. Violence has no place in democracy.
“I extend my sympathies to the former President and wish him relief. I also condole with the family of the deceased and those wounded and wish them a quick recovery.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the United States of America at this time.”
