February 18, (THEWILL) – Tragic news from Turkey as the body of footballer, Christian Atsu, has been discovered under the rubble of his home, according to his agent Nana Sechere.
Atsu, who was just 31, had been missing since a devastating earthquake hit the city of Hatay, almost two weeks ago. The Ghanaian international had previously played for English Premier League sides Everton, Chelsea and Newcastle, before joining Turkish top-flight side, Hatayspor, in September 2022.
Initially, Hatayspor had reported that Atsu had been rescued with injuries following the earthquake. However, the club later changed its position, and Atsu had been missing ever since. The news of his death has been met with shock and sadness from fans around the world.
The earthquake that hit Turkey on February 6 has been one of the deadliest in recent memory, causing widespread devastation and claiming the lives of more than 40,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria.
