July 09, (THEWILL) – Leicester City has signed Italian defender, Caleb Okoli, from Atalanta on a five-year contract. The 22-year-old centre-back joins the newly promoted English Premier League club after spending last season on loan at Frosinone Calcio in Serie A.
Okoli represented Italy at the European Under-21 Championship in 2023. He expressed excitement about making the move to Leicester, stating it was the right moment to take a big step forward in his career and enter the immensely popular and extremely competitive English top division.
The financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club. Okoli’s arrival bolsters Leicester’s defensive options as they prepare for their return to the top flight after winning promotion from the Championship last season.
Leicester will hope Okoli can make an immediate impact and help them establish themselves back in the EPL. The young Italian defender brings potential and room for development at just 22 years old.
The Foxes continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. Okoli follows Bobby Reid as Leicester’s second major signing of the summer transfer window so far in 2024.
