September 03, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have been dealt a significant injury blow with the news that key midfielder, Thomas Partey, will be out until October with a thigh injury.
Partey picked up the injury in training ahead of the Gunners’ English Premier League clash against Fulham last weekend. Scans have revealed he has sustained damage to his right thigh.
The Ghana international’s absence will come as a big setback for manager, Mikel Arteta, who is already without new signing, Jurrien Timber, in their defence lineup due to injury.
To cope without Partey, Arteta might have to revert to last season’s defence, with Ben White likely moving from centre-back to right-back, allowing Gabriel Magalhaes to come back into the starting eleven alongside William Saliba.
Gabriel was a star performer last season, but has played just 24 minutes so far this campaign. However, Arteta insisted the Brazilian understands why his playing time has been limited up to now.
The Arsenal boss will hope Gabriel can regain his best form quickly in order to shore up his defence during Partey’s spell on the sidelines.
